Find Out MoreRebuilding Lives After the Devastation of Cyclone Nisarga
Severe Cyclonic Storm Nisarga was the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the Indian state of Maharashtra in June 2020. With wind speeds of 102 km/h (63 mph) at landfall in Alibag, the cyclone caused extensive damage, affecting thousands of homes and families.
The initial damage was estimated to be Rs50 billion (US$664 million), with countless homes, possessions, and livelihoods swept away in the storm. Families were left without shelter and basic necessities, facing immense challenges in the aftermath. Our relief efforts have focused on providing emergency aid, food, and essential supplies to those in need.
We provided emergency shelter to over 1,000 families in the immediate aftermath, helping them recover from the destruction of their homes. Temporary housing was set up to provide a safe space.
Our teams distributed thousands of food packs and clean drinking water to affected communities. These essentials were critical as the local infrastructure had been severely damaged.
We are actively working to rebuild homes and restore livelihoods by providing building materials, tools, and support to local communities in their reconstruction efforts.
